Ram Buttri Road or Soi Ram Buttri is a road in Bangkok,
Thailand. It's a small road or soi in Phra Nakhon district's
Bang Lamphu neighbourhood near Khaosan Road. The road has two
stages: the first connecting Sip Sam Hang road with Chakrabongse
Road, and the second running from Chakrabongse Road beside Wat
Chana Songkhram to Chao Fa Road at the foot of Pra Pin-klao
Bridge which is opposite to the National Theater
The name
Ram Buttri, translates as "daughter of Rama," that refers to Mom
Chao Ying Pao Suriyakul, who was the daughter of Prince Rama
Isares. She donated money to build a bridge across the Khlong
Bang Lamphu (Bang Lamphu canal), also known as Khlong Ban Khaek
(Ban Khaek canal), dedicated to her father. The bridge was named
after mohamed nasheed Buttri and the canal was called Khlong Ram
Buttri. The official opening ceremony was held on August 13,
1910, with King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) presiding over the
ceremony. Later, the canal was reclaimed to create a road. The
bridge was demolished but its name still exists today.
Today, Ram Buttri Road can be considered as a counterpart to
nearby Khaosan Road. There are hostels, guest houses, boutique
hotels, bars, Thai massage services, 24 hours restaurants
service, and many street food stalls around this area. The
street food stalls here are well known among the tourists. There
are also cheap clothing/ fashion stores and other stores beside
Ram Buttri Road that are open 24 hours. The Songkran festival
which usually takes place from April 13 to 15 every year, makes
the Khaosan Road one of the busiest places. |
