[01] KUAN U SHRINE The Guan Yu Shrine in Bangkok is
dedicated to Guan Yu, courtesy name Yunchang. He was a general
serving under the warlord Liu Bei during the late Eastern Han
dynasty of China. You will also see his name spelled as Kuan U
or Kuan Yu. He is historically renowned as being loyal &
righteous. Many Chinese people around the world worship Guan Yu
including Confucianist, Taoists & Chinese Buddhists. |

[02] WAT KALAYANAMIT This beautiful old temple was
founded in 1825 in Thonburi on the banks of the Chao Phraya
River. It is a calm and very spiritual wat featuring the largest
sitting buddha in Bangkok at approximately 16 meters high and 11
meters wide. Wat Kalayanamit Varamahavihara is also home to the
largest bell in Thailand (which brings good luck if rung three
times). |

[03] WICHAI PRASIT FORT The white-walled fort of
Vichai Prasit was built in 1688 as part of a defence line of
forts to prevent ships from sailing up the river to the then
Siamese capital of Ayutthaya. It is situated on the western
bank of the Chao Phraya near the confluence of Klong Bangkok
Yai. The fort is at now part of the Royal Thai Navy’s
headquarters. |

Wat Daeng Thammachat is a classic Buddhist monastery situated on
the right bank of the Chao Phraya River. Don't miss the large
Buddha image in a meditation pose protected by a naga snake
(Best view is from the river in the morning). |

[06] WAT BANGCHAK Wat Bang Chak is located opposite
Koh Kret island on the banks of Chao Phraya river. We can see
its 27 meters high big Buddha from far away but it is not the
only interesting element of the temple. The base under the
statue shelters are accessed by symbolic doors , one is the open
mouth of a dragon. Around this is an interesting a garden with
sculptures of moments from the life of Lord Buddha and His
dierent incarnations. |

[07] KOH KRET - THE LEANING PAGODA The most
notable construction of Wat Paramai Yikawat is a leaning white
Mon style chedi at the corner of the island where the Chao
Phraya river and Lat-Kret with Om-Kret meet. It is considered a
landmark of Ko Kret. |

[09] KOH KRET - TOURIST MARKET If you happen to
visit the island on weekends, there is a popular local market
that extends about 500 meters along the northeastern end of the
main trail. The market features delicious food, clothes, arts,
and of course, pottery.

[10] KOH KRET - WAT PORAMAI YIKAWAT Wat Poramai
Yikawat is an old Mon temple built by immigrants more than 200
years ago. It was initially called Wat Pak Ao and today commonly
known as Wat Mon. King Chulalongkorn renovated the monastery in
dedication of his grandmother and constructed Phra Maha Raman
Chedi (a chedi in Mon style) to house Buddha relics. |

KOH KRET - RECLINING BUDDHA TEMPLE Wat
Poramaiyikawas temple also features a 10 metre-long reclining
Buddha and a seated Buddha considered Nonthaburi‘s most sacred. |

KOH KRET - WAT PHAI LOM Wat Phai Lom with it's
Ayutthaya-style Ordination Hall stands on Koh Kret, the small
and beautiful island in the Chao Praya River in Nonthaburi. It
is one of five temples on the island. |

[13] KOH KRET - WAT SAO THON THONG Wat Sao Thong
Thong is on the north side of Koh Kret. Around the temple's
ordination hall (ubosot) is a cluster of chedis built over 100
years ago. The Phra Thutangkha Chedi, the largest in Pak Kret
district, is circular on a square base with 12 indented corners,
built in the Ayutthaya period. |

[14] WAT KLANG KRET It has been assumed that this
temple was built in the late Ayuttaya Period. There are Buddhist
sanctuary, monk's house, and sermon hall inside the temple.
Besides, there are many other holy things to be worshipped such
as the big Buddha image in the attitude of subduing Mara. |

GRAND PALACE FROM THE RIVER The Grand Palace is a
complex of buildings at the heart of Bangkok, Thailand. The
palace has been the official residence of the Kings of Siam
since 1782. The king, his court, and his royal government were
based on the grounds of the palace until 1925. Tthe Grand Palace
is still used for official events. Several royal ceremonies and
state functions are held within the walls of the palace every
year. |

] CHAO PHRAYA RIVER - BOATS The Chao Phraya begins
at the confluence of the Ping and Nan rivers at Nakhon Sawan in
Nakhon Sawan Province. After this it flows south for 372
kilometres from the central plains to Bangkok and the Gulf of
Thailand. In Chai Nat, the river then splits into the main
course and the Tha Chin River, which then flows parallel to the
main river and exits in the Gulf of Thailand about 35 kilometres
(22 mi) west of Bangkok in Samut Sakhon. |
