Phu Phan National Park   -  Phu Phan Rajanivet Palace
พระตำหนักภูพานราชนิเวศน์
 Address:
 Known as:
Description:   Phu Phan Ratchanivet Palace is situated in the heart of Phu Phan mountain ranges, Phu Phan district, Sakon Nakhon province or about 16 kilometers from Sakon Nakhon downtown. The palace serves as the royal residence of Their Majesties the King and Queen, as well as other royal family members during their visits to Northeast Thailand. When it is not in use, the Bureau of the Royal Household allows general public to visit the palace every day.

Phu Phan Ratchanivet Palace can be recognized as a heaven for nature enthusiasts because the palace is filled with assorted kinds of trees and beautiful gardens, particularly decorative plants. Among others, wild flowering-plants from Phu Phan, e.g. Dusitta, Manee Dheva, and Thip Kesorn, appear most popular. However, it is only in winter that tourists can enjoy the blooms.

All buildings in the palace are collectively called “Muu Phra Tam-nak” (a cluster of royal residences). The interior design and modern architectural style instill the sense of classicism. However, the residence named “Piik Mai” which is used as a guesthouse has been uniquely designed to look like a log cabin.

In addition to the cluster of the royal residences, there are a number of modest-looking sheds. They are to demonstrate houses in rural areas and exhibit agricultural tools and everyday household items.

To get there: from Sakon Nakhon downtown, drive along Highway 213 (Sakon Nakhon – Kalasin). Phu Phan Ratchanivet Palace is situated just off the road at KM 14.

Opening hour: every day

Admission fee: free of charge, but it is necessary to get permission from the Office of His Majesty’s Principal Private Secretary, Grand Palace, Na Phra Lan Road, Bangkok 10200.
