Phan Thai Norasing Monument is located at Wat Norasing, Moo 2,
Norasing Subdistrict, between the ninth and the tenth milestones
of Highway No. 3501, Ang Thong-Pa Mok-Ayutthaya Road. Phan
Thai Norasing, a resident of the village of Ban Norasing, was
the coxswain of the Ekkachai Royal Barge during the reign of
King Suriyenthrathibodi. As a coxswain, he could not steer the
royal barge well enough so that the barge’s bow accidentally hit
a tree branch and was broken. According to the royal law, this
situation could lead him to the death penalty. To express his
integrity and to be a good role model for other people and the
younger generations, he insisted on receiving the death penalty.
As a consequence, his action has been praised until nowadays.
In order to commemorate one of Ang Thong Province’s greatest
men, the locals decided to erect the Phan Thai Norasing Monument
at Wat Norasing, Norasing Subdistrict, Pa Mok District, Ang
Thong. It was officially opened on 4 November 1989. |
