Tombon Mai Tra Yuan community is at Tombon Mai Tra, Amphur Bang
Sai, Phra Nakorn Sri Ayutthaya province. It is located near the
Chao Praya river, opposite Bang Sai Royal Folk Arts and Crafts.
Around 150 years ago in the past, Rattanakosin period, in this
Tombon, there were Yuan people who migrated from Samsen
district, Bangkok and settled down here until the community was
formed. Most of the villagers were Christian Catholic so the
church was built in the village. Nowadays, Yuan people have
settled down in other parts in Ayutthaya such as Baan Pan, Chao
Ched and Sena Baan Nah Khok (Amphur Phuk Hai). However, the most
populated area is at Khao Yai, Bang Sai. Yuan language is also
engaged in religious ceremonies. Those villagers call the place
they live “Khao Yuan”.
Tombon Mai Tra Subdistrict
Administrative Organization has built a raft in the Chao Praya
river from Trai Raj Wittaya school so it can be a place for
people selling their products and foods and can boost the
villagers’ income. There are many Vietnamese or Yuan food for
you to try for example Bua Loi Yuan (Yuan style dessert), Khao
Krieb Pak Moh Yuan (Yuan style snack), Khao Tom Mad Yuan (Yuan
style steamed rice) and Kuay Tiew Yuan (Yuan style noodle). For
those who love Thai dishes, there are lots to try too. Moreover
various local herbs, vegetables and fruits are widely sold. The
home stay style accommodations are provided for tourists.
If tourists visit here, they can observe the refreshing and
beautiful river view. On the opposite side, you can see Bang Sai
Royal Folk Arts and Crafts and the villager’s lifestyle who may
be fishing. There are small and big boats riding along the
river to be observed. Tourists can also visit the places nearby
for example Wat Tha Sung temple where there are Mae Kai bats,
the fishermen community, carved walls of some houses and observe
Wat Christ Prajak temple. If you are not fully full with the
food at Mai Tra raft, there are nice restaurants nearby such as
Rotdee restaurant and the giant river prawns are waiting for
you. |
