This ancient brick wall is the remains of the old palace called
"Bangyikhan Palace" that was build in 1782, King Rama I, the
first king of the Chakri Dynasty, ordered the recruitment of Lao
from Vientiane and Isan to help build Bangkok by taking on the
responsibility of digging the foundations, building the city
walls, and building the magnificent fortress of Rattanakosin.
At the foot of Rama VIII Bridge, there are remains of the Bang
Yi Khan Palace wall, which was built for the Lao prince to stay
when he came to Bangkok, especially Chao Anouvong. Nirat
Bang Yi Khan by Khun Phum, a female poet at that time, also
mentioned the palace. “Laos played an important role in the
creation of Bangkok, but Thai history does not mention it.
Before Thailand, Isan and Laos were originally considered the
same area. |
