Longans or Lamyai are extremely sweet and juicy and when fully
ripe, the skin becomes dry and brittle and very easy to remove.
The fruit is somewhat similar to the Lychee, although in recent
years the Longan has become much more popular. Lamyai is usually
eaten fresh but can also be eaten in snacks and desserts as well
as adding extra sweetness to Sweet and Sour dishes. In
traditional Medicine, Lamyai or Longan are used for stomach
aches and Insomnia and have a calming effect on the nervous
system. Longans are high in vitamins and a good source of
Glucose and Sucrose. |
