Chong Pak Kad Thai-Cambodian Border Market is located at Moo 4,
Klong Yai Sub-district, Pong Nam Ron District, Chantaburi
Province. It was opened as a checkpoint for border trade on
March 14, 1997 and later became a permanent crossing point on
November 21, 2003. This border is located opposite to Prom, only
17 kilometers away and only 30 minutes from Pailin Province,
located closest to a city compared to other points. From Pailin,
it is very convenient for tourists to travel further to
Battambang Province which is only 80 kilometers away, and to
Angkor Wat in Siem Reap Province which is 280 kilometers away.
In the future, it is estimated that Chong Pak Kad Thai-Cambodian
Border will become a big trading center between the two
countries if being helped from the government in infrastructure
and cargo. Nowadays, the 3-kilometer long highway No. 3193 to
Chong Pak Kad Border at Moo 4, has been paved.
Passport
is needed in crossing to Cambodia. The border is open 7.00 –
20.00. It is especially crowded on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Private sector is currently interested in turning the market
into a concrete building. Exporting goods from this market
include rice, noodle, flavor enhancers, vegetables, fruits, auto
parts, oils and construction materials. Importing goods from
Cambodia are lumbers, gems, vegetables and fruits. There is more
and more exchange of goods at this border every day because it
is easy to transport the products from Pailin to Battambang.
The value of Thai exporting goods to Cambodia through Chong
Pak Kad Border in 2002 is worth 376,782,540.15 baht and grew to
719,363,692.69 baht in 2003 and 920,889,558.30 baht in 2004
which is the biggest proportion at 49 percent of the total value
