“Kao Ploy Wan” is another desiring desdination for tourists of
which is a significantly historical place of Tumbon Ploy Wan,
Amphoe Ta Mai, Chantaburi Province. The reason why the place is
called “Ploy Wan” meaning valuable gems is that topography of
this area is both plain and mountainous and surrounding land
naturally contains colorful valuable gemstone, e.g. ambers,
emeralds and rubies.
“Wat Kao Ploy Wan” is a small temple located at the foot of Kao
Ploy Wan Hill, Moo 4 Baan Huay Ra Ka, Tumbon Ploy Wan, Amphoe Ta
Mai and it was built by Phraya Chantaburi named Song Muang in
the reign of King Mongkut. Inside the temple there is a
staircase upwards to the top of the hill where two amazing
building lie: a stupa containing relics of the Buddha and a mon
dop containing the foot of the Buddha. The temple was registered
as an archeological site in 1987. The stupa is round Lankan
shape at the height of 15 meters and was built in 1836 according
to stone inscription on the hill engraving that it was built at
date of 711 Chunlasakaraj 1198 the Monkey Year; the bulding was
made of bricks and cement in width of 4 arms, length of 6 arms 3
elbows. King Chulalongkorn had Phraya Pichaitibhadisri
Ronnaronkruechai (Phraya Chantaburi) filled the stupa with
relics of the Buddha and named it “Rattanakiri Chedi.” Nowadays
its foundation was renovated to be at width of 6 arms, length of
7 arms 3 elbows. The
mon dop is at the top of the hill near the stupa. Its base is 4
arms 2 elbows in width and it is in shape of four-square 7 arms
in height. Inside the building there is a replica of foot print
of the Buddha built in 1928 to replace the original one which is
a broken laterite foot print now well preserved. The view point
at the top of Ploy Wan Hill is a fascinating destination after
climbing 600 bright green-springlike-surrounding steps to reach
it. You can see all around Chantaburi Province from here: city
of Chantaburi at the foot of Sra Bap Hill in the west, Lam
Singha in the southeast and households’ orchards beautifully
standing in line in the northeast. Traveling guide to Wat Kao
Ploy Wan: Take Ta Chalab Street to Baan Taneab from
Chantaburi until Kilometer 3 then turn right and take Highway
Number 3147 until passing Kai Noeng Wong for about 2 kilometers,
you will find a health station on your left, turn right and go
straight 2 further kilometers. (Arm and elbow are Thai unit
of measurement: 1 arm equals 1 meter and 1 elbow equals 50
centimeters.) |
