The Royal Footprint of Peace
The Royal Footprint of Peace is the footprint of King
Rama IX. It is located in Meng Rai Maharat Military Camp. This
foortprint represents the grandeur of King Rama IX, who restored
the peace in northern Thailand. In the past, soldiers and locals
had to sacrifice their lives during the civil war against the
communist insurgents in Doi Pha Mon or Doi Phu Chi Fa in the
1960s-80s. On February 27, 1982, after the end of civil war,
King Rama IX, together with Queen Sirikit, Princess Maha Chakri
Sirindhorn, Princess Soamsawali, visit Ban Phaya Phiphak at San
Doi Yao. General Wiroj Thongmit led the ex-communist leader into
the audience with His Majesty the King to show their loyalty to
the King. On this occasion, his Majesty gave his footprint on
the plaster as a symbol of the victory and the peace has been
restored since then. According to a Hmong people named Laoli
Saechang, a miracle happened when his Majesty stamped his foot
into the plaster, fog and coldness suddenly disappeared and were
all replaced by warm sunlight and remained until his Majesty
went. Later, on the auspicious occasion of 60th Anniversary
Celebration of Bhumibol Adulyadej’s Accession, the military
decided to install the footprint at Meng Rai Maharat Military
Camp in Chiang Rai province. How to get there? The
footprint is in Military Camp in Amphoe Muang district, Chiang
Rai province. |
