Lopburi Monkey Buffet Festival
Known as:   Lopburi Monkey Banquet Festival
Description:   Each year the annual event, which is normally held on the last Sunday of November, is put on by the people of Lopburi town for the hundreds upon hundreds of resident, free-roaming monkeys for which the town has become famous.
First staged in the 1980s as the idea of a local hotel owner, the feast is a way of saying thank you to the monkeys who have over the years become a major drawcard for tourists, and who are today a symbol of the province.
Banquet tables laden with colourful fruits and snacks are set up for the monkeys at the town’s Wat Phra Prang Sam Yot and Wat San Phra Kan temples, attracting a throng of tourists who snap picture after picture of the monkey masses as they gobble away.
