Wat Muai To Wat Muai To is located on Address 21, Phadung Muai
To road, Tambon Chong Kham, Amphoe Mueang, Mae Hong Son. The
temple is under Maha Nikaya Buddhist Sect. Wat Muai To means the
temple of chedi. It was built in 1923 by Chao Nang Mier, the
governor of Mae Hong Son during that time. She constructed a
Thai Yai-style sermon hall. Those Buddhist citizens altogether
built 6 pagodas. The name of the temple came from its first
abbot, who moved from Wat Muay Tor, Amphoe Mok Mai, Chan State,
Myanmar. The name “Muai To” was therefore employed here. Local
people have called the temple “Chong
Muai To” until nowadays. In 1923, Wat Muai To was
registered as the legal temple. Later in 1955, the temple had
considerably dilapidated, the monk named “Phra Ratcha Wirakon”
(the temple abbot, and a monk dean of Mae Hong Son) therefore
built a new Thai Yai-style sermon hall. The building has been
used up until now. Wat Muai To consists of Phra Ubosot, sermon
hall, monk dwellings, cremation pavilion, large kitchen, Visung
Khamsema area (40 meters wide, 80 meters long), and sacred
items, such as the brass principle Buddha image in Phra Ubosot,
and the bronze one in the sermon hall, which was in Burmese
artistic style. The temple also has a Buddha Statue in Chiang
Saen style called “Sing Neung-Sing Sam”, 2 pairs of engraved
ivory with the Buddha patterns, a castle-style platform with a
sharp top, a bell-shaped chedi and a giant bell. Moreover, the
area locates the Provincial Office of Buddhism of Mae Hong Son,
the building for aged people as well. There are 6 monks, 42
novices, and 1 layman here. The important items in the temple
are the principle Buddha image in Phra Ubosot, and the one in
the sermon hall, a Buddha Statue in Chiang Saen style called
