 Description:   “Salawin River” or locally called “Kong River” is a river with beautiful scenery inside the Salawin National Park, Maehongsorn province. This river is originated from Himalaya mountain range in Tibet which is covered with snow. The river flows pass China, Myanmar, Thailand and flows back to Myanmar to Martaban Bay before flowing to Indian Ocean. This river is 3,151 kilometers altogether and it is also the border between Myanmar and Thailand at Maehongsorn province. In Maehongsorn province, it passes Amphur Mae LumNoi, Amphur Mae Sariang, AmphurSobmoey which is 120 kilometers altogether.

Salawin River is a very beautiful river. In winter the river flows pass deciduous forest, which starts to change itscolor and is covered with fogs all the way. During summer, the level of the river decreases till the underwater sand is visible since the snow from the Tibetian mountain range melts into the river. Meanwhile, it occursbeautiful delicate sand on both sides of the bank alternating with rocks. The tourists can put up tent on the bank of the river which is guaranteed to be safe or they can choose to cruise along the river with the villagers’ boat to see the beautiful scenery of Salawin River. There is a service point at the Baan Mae Sam Laeb and Baan Tum Fung. Baan Mae Sam Laeb is on the south of Baan Ta Tum Fung around 47 kilometers away from highway 1194. Then, turn left at Baan Mae Sam Laeb and turn right and go along the river for 2 kilometers.

Baan Tum Fung is 8 kilometers away from Amphur Mae Sariang. Turn right and go straight for 4 kilometers, you will arrive at the National Park office. Then, go straight along the road for 40 kilometers and you will see Baan Tum Fung.
