Prasat Phakho  -
ปราสาทพะโค
Address: Baan Kra Tok Sub-District, Choke Chai District, Nakhonratchasima
 Known as:
Description: The word Phrakho came from the root words ‘Prakho’ which is actually the name of an old city that was stated in the north-eastern Thai folk named Hor Nang Ausa or Ausa-Baros. Otherwise, it might come from the Khmer word ‘Pria Kho’ which means Phra Kho (Wua). The local people who live in the area now probably comes from the north-east part of Thailand since 100 years ago. So, the castle has been renamed.

Prakho pagoda is an old religious place in the reign of Khmer which was made of white sandstone. There is one little horseshoe shaped canal enclosed the area and the entrance gate is situated in the east. A piece of ancient pediment was discovered here and it proved that Papuan Khmer was once influenced this area during Buddhist era 16. Nowadays, a piece of pediment has been kept at National Museum, Pi mai.

Before the maintenance, the pagoda was pretty much alike a clay hill with full of trees, rocks, clay and pieces of old sculptures scattered all around the hill. There are lots of traces which show that the excavation has been happened a lot in this area. Some people smuggled in the area and stole the stuff out of the pagoda many times.

Prasat Phrakho at that time was really in a bad condition. According to the assumption, Prasat Hin Baan Phrakho was once the most beautiful and most gorgeous pagoda in Ko Rat. It was presumably constructed during Buddhist era 15-16 by the royal classic craftsman. The design of this pagoda is pretty similar to those Khmer Arts style.
