Description: |

Wat Pa Salawan is a temple where the relics of Acharn Sao,
Acharn Man and Acharn Thim are stored. To get here, visitors can
take the Nakhon Ratchasima-Dan Khun Thot bus, which leaves from
Nakhon Ratchasima Bus Terminal 1 every 30 minutes from 7:00 till
20:00. Then take a motorcycle taxi to the destination.
The temple has a total area of about 17 acres. It has 84 monk
houses, a sermon hall, a wihan, a main hall, Phra Tam Nak, a
kitchen and a storeroom. The temple is bordered to the east by
public land near the lake of Nong Kae Chang, to the west and the
north by land of the State Railway of Thailand and to the south
by private land.
About 30 years ago, the temple was
surrounded by lonely bamboo jungle. Outside the temple’s wall,
there was a cartway running around the temple. Located to the
southwest of the temple was a graveyard. The temple was then
bordered to the south by paddle fields where locals would sell
clay bricks. These fields were later converted into a health
centre and Homeland Village. In addition, a crematorium used to
stand near the lake of Nong Kae Chang before being demolished.
Additionally, the reason why the lake is called Nong Kae Chang,
literally meaning the lake of elephant releasing, is that, in
the past, mahouts and their elephants would travel past the lake
and mahouts would let the elephants rest around the lake. |
