Wat Lam Mahamek is Maha Nikaya Buddhist temple (Maha Nikaya is
one of the two principal sects of modern Thai Buddhism). It is
located on Mu 1, 5 Bo Ngen sub-district, Lat Lumkaew district,
Pratumthani province, covering an area of 35,167m2. Its north
side borders Khlong Bangluang Waiphra. Its south side borders
the land of Mr. Sala Chaichum. Its east side borders the land of
Mr. Phut Plachon and its west side borders the land of Mr. Sala
Chaichum. It was built in 1914 and originally located at the
end of Khlong Bangluang Waiphra on the land of Mr. Chan
Buafarang. Later, Phiksu Cham, the ruler of the temple at that
time, decided to re-settle the temple on the land of Mrs. Chin
Yaemyuean and changed the temple’s name to “Wat Lam Mahamek” in
1924. In January 24, 1941, his majesty the king granted the
consecrated boundaries to the temple. In the area of the
temple there is a big running water swamp where many birds like
heron, egret and cormorant live. The temple has been offering
the class of Dhamma study since 1939. Today, the temple also
offers the class of Dhamma and Pali study for monks and novices.
There is also a learning foundation for monks, novices and
students. The temple has already been renovated once. 21-inch
wide Luang Pho Phra Si An and the 59-inch wide main Buddha image
in the attitude of subduing Mara in Ubosot are the important
sacred object of the temple. |
