Ubosot which is 7.50 meters wide, 23 meters long, renovated in
1968 – 1971 by using concrete and iron to build in Thai-Raman
style with glass walls; 9 monk’s dwellings, 5 teakwood dwellings

was built in 1815 by Mon people who moved from Maotama town
under the leading of Samingsodbao. This group of Mon was
called as “Mon Mai” or the new group of Mon. (While the Mon
people who migrated to Thai during Praya Jen reign was called
“Mon Kao” or the old group of Mon.) Mon Mai migrated to live
under Rattanakosin’s King Rama II’s virtue. They built the
temple called “Wat Kwao” which means “Chan Kapor trees” in Mon
language. Therefore, people often called this temple as “Wat
Kapor”. The name was changed into “Wat Chan Kapor” on 26 April
1955 and was used until nowadays. The renovation had begun since
the first abbot until the recent abbot.
In 1968, it was
praised as the model temple of the province. It was appointed as
the ordinary type of third grade royal temple since 1 October
1991. The Ministry of Education made an announcement on 29
November 1991 and it was received the permission to build Ubosot
hall or what we called “Wisungkamsima” in 1822. |
