Description: |
|
The well is located just outside a village in Phitsanulok
Province, near the provincial border with Loei. On the main road
are several stalls selling small bags of salt, with larger bags
on the road side, these, I suspect, are to be transported
elsewhere for sale. The salt originates from a small, single
well, elaborately presented. The well is at the end a short
street, back from the main road. Production involves scooping a
small bucket of water from the well, which is then placed in
pans where the water evaporates. Then the resultant salt is
placed in an open wicker basket. Here the ladies of the village
whack the damp salt, drying it out, while chatting about the
concerns of the day.
