Description: |

Kaeng Song Waterfall is one of many waterfalls of Wang Thong
District of Phitsanulok. It is a 150-meter wide and 10-meter
high waterfall of Lam Nam Khek stream that flows through a wide
big rock and falls down from several rock levels, creating a
beautiful scene of the waterfall.
During winter and
summer when the stream flows slowly and the water is greenish
clear, tourists can enjoy swimming in the pond. People who would
like to take beautiful pictures of the waterfall from the front
have to walk on a rocky ground by the pond to the end of the
stream. (There is a pathway leading tourists to the top of Kaeng
Song Waterfall, not to the front. So, in order to see the front
view of the waterfall, tourists are required to walk on a rocky
ground by the pond to the end of the stream.) During rainy
season when the water level of Kaeng Song Waterfall increases
and the fast flowing stream makes the water turn muddy, swimming
in the water is not allowed and taking pictures of the
waterfall’s front view can be done only at a private resort,
located at the end of the stream, with its permission.
Even though tourists are not allowed to get in the water during
rainy season, many shops and restaurants in the area of the
waterfall are still open because there are also tourists who
visit the place for the “Khek River Rafting Festival," during
June to October of every year. Some rafting tours bring their
tourists to the shore before reaching the waterfall, making
shops and restaurants in the area can sell their goods
throughout the season. If you want to change the atmosphere from
a fancy dinner at a luxurious resort to a local meal with cheap
price, try order Som Tum, grilled chicken or grilled fish at
Kaeng Song Waterfall.
How to Get There
Private
cars: From Muang Distrcit of Phitsanulok, take Highway No. 12
(Phitsanulok – Lom Sak route), heading Lom Sak District of
Phetchabun. At the 44th – 45th kilometer, you will see an
entrance to Kaeng Song Waterfall on your right. Tourists have to
park at a small concrete parking lot on the left, opposite to
the waterfall (there are shops and restaurants near that parking
lot) and cross the bridge to the waterfall.
Public
buses: Take buses for Phitsanulok – Phetchabun, Phitsanulok –
Lom Sak or Phitsanulok – Nakhon Thai and drop off at the parking
lot near Kaeng Song Waterfall and walk for about 100 meters to
the waterfall.
Travel season
Tourists can visit Kaeng
Song Waterfall all year round but the perfect travel season is
from mid November to early February. (In winter, it is perfect
for swimming because the stream flows slowly and the water is
greenish clear.) |
