Nom Sao beach (Samroyyod beach) is located in Khao Daeng
sub-district. It is a beautiful quiet beach, sheltered by the
lines of pine trees, with an area shallow enough for swimming.
In the south of the beach, many islands are seen, including Ko
Rom Island, Nom Sao Island, Rawing Island, and Rawang Island.
The tourists can take the boat to the island to go diving and
enjoy the beautiful coral reef in the Gulf of Thailand. There
are always a lot of resorts and accommodations along the beach
for the tourists. The tourists can also take Phetkasem road and
turn left at the 34th kilometer marker (Khao Kalok entrance).
When reaching Phu Noi temple, turn left at the Disaster
Prevention and Mitigation Regional Center 4. A small crossroad
to the beach will appear.
There is a classic legend
about this beach. The legend has it that a long time ago, there
was a family in Ao Noi, Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, consisting
of the father Ta Mong Lai, his wife Ramphueng, and their
daughter Yom Douy. It is said that Yom Douy was so beautiful
that she became the object of desire of many young men, no
matter how far they lived. The fame of Yom Douy's beauty had
spreaded to Petchaburi. Chao Lai, the son of Petchaburi
governor, heard of this rumor so he disguised himself into a
fisherman to meet her and they fell in love with each other.
Chao lai, then, asked Ramphueng for Yom Douy's hand in marriage.
Ramphueng accepted without telling Ta Mong Lai. At the same
time, after Ta Mong Lai have gone fishing on boat around Bang
Saphan bay, he met a fleet of Chinese vessels and asked those
Chinese people to visit his home. Once the son of Chinese
emperor met Yom Douy, he immediately fell in love with her. He
asked Ta Mong Lai for Yom Douy's hand of marriage. Ta Mong Lai,
too, accepted without telling his wife. On the day of the
marriage, Chao Lai's and the son of Chinese emperor's Khan Makk
procession reached Ta Mong Lai's home at the same time. This
caused a big argument since both Ta Mong Lai and Ramphueng did
not prefer the same person to become their son-in-law and could
not come to agreement. Ramphueng could not win her husband so
she ran away and died. The place is called "Mae Ramphueng
Mountain," where she lied protect "Mae Ramphueng bay." From the
day of his wife's death, Ta Mong Lai became mad. He grabbed Yom
Douy and tore her apart into 2 pieces. He threw one piece to
Chao Lai, which turned to be "Nom Sao island' at Prachuap Khiri
Khan Province, and the other piece to the son of Chinese
emperor, which became "Nom Sao island" at Chonburi Province,
until these days. |
