 Description:   Pu Mahesak shrine and Thai So museum is located around Kusuman district office area. It is approximately 40 kilometers away from the province. It is located on the right-handed side of SaKhon Nakhon – Nakhon Phanom route.
It is the holy place for Thai So community who believe it is where the spirits live and help protecting Thai So. In the museum, there are many Thai So utensils. They migrated from the left bank of Khong river. There are inscriptions of Thai so language and Thai language for comparing the differences of alphabets and pronunciation.
Thai So museum is located at Kusuman district, Sakon Nakhon province. The building is a single-storey.
In the front, there are Phra Aran Asa, Kusuman leader and ruler statue and statues portraying the lifestyles in different manners which look real. Inside are where old equipment from generations to generations such as bowls, plates, tiles, Podduang money, hunting tools and agricultural equipment are kept. There are also clothings of many tribes such as Phu Thai, Thai Yo, Kaleng, Thai Lao and Thai So.
Most people in Kusuman district are Thai So. They carry outstanding uniqueness which is the language.
It sounds like Khmer language. If you are not Kuruman people or have no knowledge about So language, you will barely understand what the person is talking to you because the language is quite difficult to understand.
The clothing of the tribe are black cloth, black tube-shaped shirt decorated in red color at the hem and sleeves, long black sarong decorated with different clothing at the hem, silver accessory such as necklace, belt and earrings.
If you would like to see the tribe’s clothing, it is recommend to visit the place in the beginning of February which is the annual festival of Kusuman district. The festival is called Ngan So Rumruk (Recall of So). Kusuman people, both men and women, will dress in tribe’s clothing and join the festival.
In the festival, there is a competition to find the most beautiful girl in the district which is called “Thida So” (So’s daughter). There is a Kusuman’s unique dancing when the festival starts which is called “So Tang Bang”. One will use the bamboo stick to make the sound and rhythm for the dancers. The dancing is very stunning and cannot be seen easily.
This festival which you can watch the dance is held only once a year. The other chance to watch the dance is during the Wax Castle Festival at the end of Buddhist Lent. Sakon Nakhon people will gather and pass on the culture from their ancestors. There are dancings from every tribe. The length of the parade is around five kilometers.
The museum is located between Kusuman district office and Kusum district local police station. It is approximately 40 kilometers away from Sakon Nakhon city and 55 kilometers away from Nakhon Panom city. From Sakon Nakhon, when you enter Kusuman district, on the right-handed side is a fresh market. Drive straight for 1 kilometer and you will see the
Y-intersection on your left-handed side of Tha Uthen district, Nakon Phanom province. Your right-handed side is Kusuman district office. Turn right into Kusuman district office and drive straightly to Kusuman district local police station.
The museum is on your right-handed side. There is Phra Aran Asa statue in front of the museum.
You can also go there by taking Nakon Phanom – Udon Thani route, Khonkaen – Nakon Phanom route, Chiang Rai – Nakon Phanom route or getting on Chan Tour bus Rayong- Nakon Phanom route which are of air conditioners or fan buses.
The fee is up to the distances.
