Description: |
|
Wat Bang Ping is an
ancient temple built in 1917, next to Khlong Bang Ping, The
top of a two-story building enshrines Phra Bud-dha Lokkachet
Wisetkittipan Mahabuchonchit, an enormous Buddha image in the
attitude of opening the three worlds in Gandhara art. After the
foundation stone was laid on May 25, 2013, the construction
started later in Septem- ber, gradually completed, and held a
celebratory ceremony in October 2016. The name means “the
world’s most notable Lord Buddha, magnificently and faithfully
crafted by Phra Kittipala Mahathera, humbly respected and
worshipped among the people”. It was built upon the wish of Phra
Khru Wisan Phatthanakan, abbot of Wat Bang Ping, to complete the
task of Phra Khru Phiphit Phat- thanaphithan, the former abbot,
as a spiritual sanctuary of Wat Bang Ping, inviting the Buddha
statue’s model from Wat Buddha Uthayan (Ooi In See), Chiang Rai.
The sculpture is 32 meters tall from the ground to the head, and
25 meters tall from the feet to the head. The first floor of the
building beneath houses a Buddhist ceremonial ground, an
elevator that conveniently leads to Phra Buddha Lokkachet.
