Adjacent to BTS Paknam Skytrain Station and Mueang Samutprakan
District Office, it is extremely convenient to access via BTS
Skytrain within five minutes on foot. Phra Buddha Chinnarat
Vihara was established during the time when Withun Chakkaphak
was governor of Samutprakan, joined by loyal disciples and
Buddhist followers of Luang Pu Phra Chai Mongkhon. The
auspicious gold casting ceremony held in front of the
Samutprakan City Hall courtyard in 1963 was presided over by
Pol. General Luang Chatrakankoson, former permanent secretary of
the Ministry of the Interior. The Supreme Patriarch performed
the consecration ceremony and named the Buddha image "Phra
Buddha Chinnarat Mongkhonprakan” as the image of the provincial
Buddha from Samutprakan. Phra Buddha Chinnarat Mongkhonprakan
was once enshrined in the glass mandapa of Samutprakan Old Town
Hall. After the city hall moved from the Chao Phraya River bank,
he was invited back to the new mandapa behind the new city hall.
The statues of Mogallana and Sariputta were then cast and
consecrated alongside the Phra Buddha Chinnarat Mongkhonprakan.
Entering the Vihara, serenity is revealed in front of Phra
Buddha Chinnarat Mongkhonprakan, the golden image of the Buddha
with a width of 60 inches in the same attitude as the Chinnarat
Buddha of Wat Phra Sri Rattana Mahathat in Phitsanulok, with
Moggallana and Sariputta at left and right. Additionally, the
Vihara is decorated with fascinating murals depicting the life
of Lord Buddha. The wall behind the main Buddha image depicts
the scene of Mara's defeat while the front wall captures the
major transformation of Paknam from past to present. The Thai
angels and elephants on the window panels, as well as other
angels on the door panels, are gracefully hand painted with Thai
art patterns. |
