Description: |
|
The temple, commonly known as Wat Paichayon, is the second rank
of Royal Aram. It is situated in Tambon Bang Pueng, Amphoe
Pra-pradaeng, Samutprakarn. It was established by Krom
Phrarajawang Baworn Mahasak Ponlaseph in the reign of King Rama
II. Once the construction was completed, it was called “Wat
Kromsak” or “Wat Paklad” but later called “Wat Wangna” in the
reign of King Rama III; however, King Rama IV gave the name “Wat
Paichayonponlaseph”
An interesting thing there is the
monastery and the vihanr of great beauty. The monastery is
influenced by Chinese art of which the identity is that the
construction excludes gable apex and boundary marker made from
green sandstone. There are two stairs eastwards of which the
banisters are decorated with Chinese stone lions. Windows are in
design of Lai Rodnam or Thai lacquer works and gilded as
Himmapan and its animals.
Inside the monastery is a stucco principal image of Buddha
subduing Mara seated on the movable throne with four gable ends
which was used as a place installing the image of Phra Phuttha
Sihing at Buddhaisawan Chapel.
Moreover, the
vihanr is also influenced by Chinese art. For example, in front
stand Phra Mokkalana and Phra Sareebutr, two of Buddha’s major
disciples, in posture of meditating. The stuccos at the
tympanum, door frame are window frame are exquisite.
