Field Marshal Plaek Pibulsongkram (1897-1964) was a leading Thai
political figure in the first half of the 20th century. He was
involved with the overthrow of the absolutist monarchy (1932),
the abdication of the Thai King Rama 7 (1935), and was
effectively the military dictator of the country during the
1940s and 1950s (Prime Minister: 1938 to 1944 and 1948 to 1957).
