Description:    Wat Khao Wong is located at 62/1, Moo 5, Khao Wong subdistrict, Phuttha Bhat district, Saraburi province. It was officially granted a permission to construct the monastery on 5 July 1917, and was officially granted the Wisungkhamasima from the King on 5 June 1978. The temple is measured 30 meters wide * 51 meters long. It spreads over the area of 1,500 square meters. The marking of the monastic boundary was conducted on 20 February 1983.
It has been serving as a religious place for a long time. When Somdet Phra Narai the Great departed from his palace in Lopburi to administer the public affairs in Ayutthaya. He spent a night in Narai cave where Somdet Phra Chao Songtham used to stay overnight during his trip to pay homage to the Buddha’s footprint. The stone inscription at the entrance of the cave claims that several religious practices have taken place inside the cave since Anuratthapura era or 1,200 years ago. The cave has been through its rise and fall depending on the regime and the spread of Buddhism.
Nowadays under the guidance of Somdet Phra Buddhacarya (Kiew Upaseno) and Phra Phrom Sithi Nayok (Thongchai Sukyano) the abbot of Wat Saket Rajaworamahawiharn, Wat Khao Wong was promoted as the model of developed temple with exceptional achievements. The temple was also registered by the Fine Arts Department as a national ancient monument on 4 December 2002 as printed in the government gazette (volume 119, special issue). Moreover, it functions as a nursery for plants and endangered animals, such as Wrightia SIRIKITIAE D.J. Middleton & Santisuk, Dracaena loureiri, Red-whiskered Bulbu, Finlayson's squirrel, etc.
Wat Khao Wong (Narai cave) is considered Saraburi’s Dharma and mediation center. It follows the fundamental practice of Phra Ratcha Prommayan (Luang Phor Rusi Lingdam) and emphasizes Maha Satipatthana Sutta. The temple provides accommodation for Buddhist fellows all year round.
