This ancient temple is located on a medium-sized hill. It is
located at Ton Tarn subdistrict on the right side of Pah Sak
River. It has an important sacred place which is the pagoda that
contains the Buddha’s white bone. The local people mention
that on some occasion, the bright glass ball is seen above the
viharn hall of Wat Khao Kaew. It is believed to be the
miracle of the holy items in the pagoda. Therefore, this temple
is called “Wat Khao Kaew” which Khao means hill and Kaew means
glass. In the reign of King Rama IV, when he arrived at Sao
Hai district, he ordered to build the residences at Tha Hin Lard
in front of Wat Khao Kaew which is the peaceful and beautiful
place. He also ordered to renovate this temple and announced it
as another royal temple in Sara Buri province. Inside the
temple are many interesting features: 1.The Naga reverted
their heads stair: It is the stairs from the foothill up to the
hilltop. The staircase is the Naga body decorated with colorful
glasses. There are two lions statues standing in front of the
entrance and the doorkeepers dressed in western style. 2.The
Pagoda: It is located on the top therefore it can be visually
seen from far away. It is where the Buddha’s bone and the
remains of the disciples are kept. It is built in reduced 12
angles style and is around 34 centimeters tall. Above at the
throne is the group of lotus. Around the pagoda are the arches
for locating the stone Buddha Images in different poses. In the
past, they were in are many colors such as black, white and
green. However, they are repainted in yellow-gold except one
Buddha Image which is still remained in black color. Below the
pagoda were the principle statues in all 4 directions. 3.The
small 5-peak pagoda: This small pagoda is located between the
bell tower and the big pagoda. It is built in 1870. It is where
the Buddha’s footprint model and extra-decorated Buddha Images
are located. In the east is where the Buddha Image with elephant
and monkey is placed while in the west is where the Buddha Image
in raising both hands to stop the relatives pose located.
4.The mural painting: The only thing left is the gable which
narrates the story of 13 rules that the Buddha allows the monks
to behave, the study of human’s body and the picture of hell on
different sides. From Sara Buri district, drive along Pichai
road. Then drive into Highway Number 3041, drive past Sao Hai
until you reach the intersection. Turn right, cross Pah Sak
Bridge until you reach Y-intersection. Then turn right into
Highway Number 3225, drive past Wat Tha Chang Nue for around 2.5
kilometers. The entrance of the temple is on your left-hand
side. Turn right and drive for around 200 meters, then you will
reach the temple. |
