Description: |
|
Wat Baan Krang is situated at BaanKrangSub-District, Sri Prachan
District, Suphanburi. It lies on the west of Suphanburi river
(Thajeen river) with the area of 116 acres. The sanctuary of the
temple was constructed during Ayuttaya period. It has been
presumed that the temple must be at least 400 years old. The
highlight of the temple is a chamber of Phra Khun Paen Baan
Krang. It was made of baked clay. It has been believed that any
guys hang Phra Khun Paen necklace, they will never ever faced
with any difficulties or dangers. These Phra Khun Paen
presumably built after the war between King Naraesuan and the
king Aupparaja of Burma. When King Naraesuan brought the troops
back after the war finished, he passed by Sri Prachan District
and decided to stop and stay here for a little while. During
that period of time, he ordered the troops to create more than
84,000 pieces of small Buddha image for the sake of the soldiers
that passed away. One of the most special small Buddha image is
a pair of Phra Pim Baan Krang. One of it stands for King
Naraesuan and another one stands for King Ekatossaros. This kind
of small Buddha image is very rare.
Besides, there are
many more interesting things inside the temple. When you reach
at the temple, you will encounter the wooden building with two
storeys. It is peaceful yet can very well reflect the humble
life of the locals. There are many fish live at the rim of the
river. There is a Thai style raft provided at the place so that
visitors can enjoy making merit by feeding the fish. Later, when
you walk into the temple, you will spot the main sanctuary which
is the ancient monument that was built during Ayuttaya period.
There is one big principle Buddha image which was built in the
style of Au Thong arts. There are many boundaries of a bot
enclosed the sanctuary and they were made of Buddha images of
Phra Wat Krang. So, this is why boundaries of a bot here at this
temple are special and different from others. The sanctuary of
the temple is approximately 450 years old and there are Luang Po
Kaew image and principle Buddha image placed inside. Next,
visitors will as well meet with the mondop which inside got a
Buddha’s footprint. It was built in 1933. Behind the sanctuary,
there is one pagoda which was just renovated. It is 5.70 meters
high and it was built in order to be a place to keep the
property of Wat Baan Krang (Phra Khun Paen). More than 20 Bronze
Buddha images were once discovered inside the pagoda as well as
the green glass small Buddha images. Also, at the rim of the
river, there is one pagoda floats at the middle of the river. It
was built in the reign of King Rama IV which is approximately
150 years ago. King Rama V as well once came over the place to
pray. This pagoda actually floats in the middle of Tha Jeen
River as the place for the locals to carry out their ceremony in
Loy Kratong Festival, but, due to the current, the pagoda sailed
and it moved to the rim of the river until today.
Visitors can come over by taking a highway number 340 and keep
going through Sri Prachan District. Take a turn to a highway
number 3038 when you pass by at the kilometer markers 14-15. Wat
Baan Krang is situated at the rim of Suphanburi River which is
opposite to Sri Prachan District office. The temple is 20
kilometers far from the center of Suphanburi town. |
