 Description:   Umphang Wildlife Sanctuary is a conserved forest, aiming to preserve natural resources of Thailand’s western forest, the area at which one of the world heritages is located. Most of the areas are complex mountains with rainforests and deciduous forests. The weather is very cold during November to February. Wild animals that can be seen at this sanctuary are clouded leopards, tapirs, serows, falcons and spot-billed pelicans. The area was announced Umphang Wildlife Sanctuary in 1989. The main attraction inside the sanctuary is the Thi Lo Su Waterfall. Thi Lo Su means “the Black Waterfall” in Karen language. It is located in the area of Umphang Wildlife Sanctuary, 3 kilometers far from the office. It is a large limestone waterfall with the width of 500 meters and height of 300 meters, located 900 meters above sea level. Thi Lo Su’s water source comes from Klo Tho stream supplying water for the waterfall all year round. Situated in the embrace of charming luxuriant vegetation, Thi Lo Su is the most beautiful waterfall in Thailand and is ranked among the six most beautiful waterfalls in the world. To visit the waterfall, visitors need to be extra careful when walking in some tiers which require visitors to walk through the stream. To get to the waterfall by car, from Umphang District, take Umphang – Mae Sot route. At the 161st kilometer, turn left to the route from Ban Mae Klong to Dan De Lo or “Umphang Wildlife Sanctuary” checkpoint and go on for 30 kilometers.
     To go to Umphang, from Bangkok, take highway No. 1 (Phaholyothin Road), passing Aytthaya, Ang Thong, Singburi, Chainat, Nakhonsawan and Kamphaeng Phet, for 410 kilometers. 7 kilometers before reaching Tak, turn to highway No. 105 (Tak – Mae Sot route) and go on for 88 kilometers to enter Mae Sot District. Then, take highway No. 1090 (Mae Sot – Umphang route) for 164 kilometers to enter Umphang District. The journey from Bangkok to Umphang takes 689 kilometers.
