Ubon Candle festival
แห่เทียน
Address:   Thung Si Mueang, Mueang District, Ubon Ratchathani
Known as:   Wax Sculpture and Candle Procession Festival
Description:   Asalha Puja is the celebration of Buddha"s first sermon and start of the annual threemonth Buddhist retreat (Khao Pansa), when monks traditionally stop their wandering and retire to temples during the rainy season.
It"s celebrated nationwide throughout Thailand on the three days around the full moon in July (the 27th), with candle-lit porcessions, around temple chedi's, most picturesquely in Bangkok at Wat Benchamabophit and Wat Bowornniwet, seat of the Supreme Patriarch.
The most spectacular regional celebration is Ubon Ratchathani Candle Festival, with local Isaanpeople making huge wooden or plaster sculptures, coating them in orange bees wax in which intricate decorations are carved.
Sculptures are mounted on floats and candles paraded through the town before being presented to various wats.
